Design: A concept that is less often seen when it comes to core strength wheels, these come with 2 rollers, one for each hand.
Key Features:
- Small and light, ideal for traveling
- It comes as a pair, two wheels for each hand
- Provide a great workout for your core (hips, chest and shoulders)
- Allows for variations of classical exercises such as push-ups or planks
- Allows for unique exercises due to the angles possible with two small core pieces of equipment at the same time
- Comes with a guide for exercises specific to the product
The Good:
- These wheels do offer the possibility of exercises that would not be possible with other types of equipment.
- Decent grip for the most part. The wheels have generally performed to a satisfactory level both on smooth surfaces like tiles and on the carpet.
- Easy to use. The learning curve is quite accessible.
- Solid handle bars. The bars feel like they can withstand a lot of pressure. We did have people with larger body weights test them and they performed well, showing no signs that they were about to break.
The Bad:
- Not too many exercises in the provided guide. Quite strange, since the wheels are being sold on the uniqueness of the workouts you can do.
- Plastic wheels are not as good as rubber would have been. While the wheels are quite good for what can be done with plastic, the disadvantages compared to rubber are still there. There are instances where they squeak on smooth surfaces or when the grip is not at a desirable level. We recommend using them on a carpet for best results.
- Cheap foam grip. The foam layer seems to be lacking in terms of quality. We would expect it to wear out quickly.
- Price is a little high for the materials used.
SKLZ Core Wheels Dynamic Strength & Ab Trainer
The Verdict
The product has an interesting potential but it only lives up to part of it. The best aspect is that the exercise possibilities are unique indeed, offering some interesting variations in your core workout routine.
However, it was sad to see just how little content and detail there was in the workout guide. We had to look online for more types of exercises suggested by regular users. Clearly, there were times in the past when there wasn’t much available besides the poor official information.
The grip these wheels provide is decent, for the most part. But we did have some issues with smooth surfaces at times. We can only say to have mixed feelings about the wheels.
Another thing that bothered us was the cheap feeling that the foam on the handle gave us, showing signs of wear after only a few days. On the bright side, we found the handle itself to be quite strong and reliable in our tests.
When it comes down to a verdict, the SKLZ Core Wheels remain an interesting product if you want something different when training your core. But a few issues regarding the materials used and instructions offered manage to bring it down a few notches. Still, I like the variation offered by dual rollers vs the single roller style.
