Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer
The verdict is that the Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer has an edgy design, good feature set, and generally provides reliable readings. There are some occasional blips, but in our testing the scale delivers fairly consistent results when used properly. Moreover, the scale enables easy fitness tracking by wirelessly connecting to your Android or iOS smartphone. In addition to the Withings mobile app, the scale is compatible with other fitness related apps such as Loselt and RunKeeper, to help you further track your fitness data. In addition to typical measurement data like weight, body fat, and BMI, the scale also provides some useful data on air quality and weather. This is convenient to have, although we did not get to extensively test the accuracy of the carbon dioxide readings over time. This scale is useful for the entire family, as it keeps the information of eight users and is equipped with automatic recognition. In summary, this scale is solid across the board in terms of design, accuracy, and features. However, other buyers have reported issues with reliability, and customer support seems to be all but non-existent. We did not experience this, but it is worth nothing. The other drawback is the higher cost. Although even at a $100+ price tag, the scale is still a decent value based on our testing.

The device runs on 4 AAA batteries, which are included in the original price of the machine.
A smartphone isn’t required for using the scale, but the app is available on both Android and iOS devices.
Scale Accuracy: 4/5
It is compatible with various apps, including My Fitness Pal, FitBit, etc.
The app is easy to install and use. Having an app to record progress is a critical feature for tracking fitness goals and progress.
Bright, large LCD, which is easy to read.
8 users can sync their fitness data securely without other users being able to view the data.
Some users have had issues with their Bluetooth connectivity.
There is some difficulty syncing to Fitbit. The only way to transfer your data to Fitbit is by opening the Weight Gurus application in first, and then moving it over to Fitbit, which can be a nuisance.
Weight Gurus Bluetooth Smart Connected Body Fat Scale with Large Backlit LCD presents an excellent price/quality ratio. The scale is easy to use, feature rich, and has a timeless, elegant design.
Pairing the machine with the companion app is fairly effortless. iOS users should have no trouble, but for Android 6.0 users make sure your location is turned on in order to link the scale to the app. This is not mentioned in the instructions.
After the scale is connected to the app, you setup your profile, and transferring data is simple from there. All you have to do is turn on Bluetooth, pair, and step on the scale. The scale will automatically transfer your information to the app privately.
Our measurements were consistent for weight and body fat, although some other customers have stated that the scale doesn’t zero out properly unless you first put some weight on it, step off, and then step back on for a second reading. This appears to be isolated to a small number of users though.
The app, which can be downloaded from both iTunes and Google Play, is easy to use. Entries in the Weight Gurus app can be saved, deleted or transferred to other services like Fitbit or Google Fit. Attractive graphs are available within the app to help track progress over time, in addition to the many fitness tracking features available in the other compatible services. Some users report issues with Fitbit compatibility, but it seems this has been resolved by an update to the app.
Overall, this is a very attractive and accurate scale with a feature set that dwarfs most others in this price range. Our testing showed consistent results, and the multiple different fitness tracking apps make it extremely easy to monitor progress and spot potential outliers or bad readings and remove them from the data set. Combine that with excellent customer service, and you have yourself a winner.

Scale readings can be inconsistent if not used very carefully. Scale has to be on a hard, completely level surface. Even the tiniest variation may result in an error of measurement.
Some users report inaccurate body fat percentage readings. Could be attributed to sensitivity to the amount of water in the body at time of reading.
It has to be turned on and off by pushing a button at the back of the scale. No step-on technology.
The product doesn’t allow setting of different body types.
Omron Body Composition Monitor /w 5 Fitness Indicators
In our testing this scale provided accurate results, assuming that it is used carefully and all variables are controlled. Some things that can cause inaccurate readings are the type of surface it is on, how centered the user is on the scale, and the amount of water in the body at time of reading. Electrical impedance measurements are sensitive to body water composition.
In order to combat this, Omron’s retractable cord measures both hands and feet, diminishing the influence of water placement in the body. With scales that only take measurements from the feet, the placement of water in the upper or lower body can effect results.
While the product is fairly easy to use, the on/off button isn’t convenient. And taking measurements using both the hands and feet requires a little more effort than just stepping on a scale.
Some customers have reported significant discrepancies in accuracy. This seems to be common with just about any body composition monitor, although this being a high end device, it is unclear if this is due to some buyers receiving a defective product or using it improperly. Regardless, it is necessary to know the limitations of this type of product, and understand that results over time are more important than day to day fluctuations.
The bottom line is that during our testing, this product did deliver very consistent readings, but it also lacks some important features like bluetooth connectivity and fitness tracking apps.
Tanita BC558 Ironman Segmental Body Composition Monitor
The Tanita BC-558 Ironman Segmental Body Composition Monitor is a professional grade body composition scale that may overwhelm some people on first use. While it is one of the most accurate body composition monitors on the market, it does take some time to calibrate.
The readings are at the same accuracy level you’d get at a professional fitness center, making it a good scale for professional fitness athletes. Nonetheless, amateurs might not value this level of accuracy considering the high price tag.
Like other Tanita body composition monitors, it uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), which is acknowledged as one of the most accessible and reliable methods of screening body fat. The difference between this device and some of the lower cost scales on the market is the ability to measure different segments of the body independently. Typically body fat scales only take readings from the feet, which can lead to inaccurate results depending on a number of factors. That is not the case with the Tanita BC-558.
Overall, this is one of the most accurate body composition monitors you can buy and is best suited for professionals or those who are willing to spend 10x for that accuracy. For recreational users your money may be better spent on a lower cost scale that offers features like bluetooth connectivity and fitness tracking.

Good quality-price ratio
Reliable customer service

The app could be improved in some aspects
The Bluetooth connectivity is finicky and doesn’t always connect to a smartphone or tablet in a time-effective manner
No Wi-Fi connectivity, which is preferred by many over bluetooth
Yunmai Premium Smart Scale
The Yunmai Premium Smart Scale is a product featured by versatility – the product design is attractive and durable and it offers all the features you’d expect from a premium scale.
You needn’t tap the scale to use it like some others. You step on, and in a few seconds you’ll be provided with the measurements. Your measurements can then be synced to the smartphone app via bluetooth, although this is sometimes easier said than done. Some users report issues with the bluetooth connectivity.
Concurrently, the app could use some enhancements. There are a few grammatical errors, making it clear that this is a foreign product that was not properly translated to English. It also does not connect to any other fitness tracking apps like Fitbit or Apple Health (yet).
One key concern among many buyers is security. A while back, some of the more tech savvy users discovered that the app had access to a wide range of sensitive information on the phone, including call logs and photos. The concerns were heard and the app has since been updated, but it's worth mentioning.
In terms of accuracy, this scale is above average in our testing. Readings appear mostly accurate but can fluctuate slightly from day to day. Weight readings are very consistent, but most other readings can bounce around a bit. Still, it is feature packed, attractive looking, and provides good accuracy for the price.

Accurate readings across most metrics during our testing.
Can automatically track up to 8 different profiles.
Great price considering features and aesthetic appeal.
Higher maximum weight than most other scales.
Automatically turns on and off, no buttons to push.
Easy to switch between different measurements with simple push buttons.
Cannot set the profile age under ten years old even though it says the scale is intended for infants as well.
Some users have reported inconsistent body fat results. Sensitive to the surface it is placed on.
Ozeri Touch 440 lbs Total Body Bath Scale
The Ozeri Touch Total Body Scale delivers accurate weight measurements for people of any age while using bioimpedance spectrospcopy to calculate muscle and bone mass, body fat and hydration. The device operates quickly using modern step-on technology and touch buttons that ensure easy and quick operation.
Each user profile tracks data regarding gender, age, height, weight, which enables your entire family to monitor their health. The design is modern and appealing, available in both black and white which makes it fit in just about any bathroom.
Most users report consistent readings for body fat percentage, but as with all scales that use this technology the readings can jump around depending on how much water is in your body at the time of the measurement. Users who are dehydrated will likely notice a higher body fat reading than normal. Still, the overall accuracy of this scale is very good considering the price range.
Overall, this is a great scale for the price. When considering the design, feature offering, accuracy, and cost, this scale offers a lot of value. Professional athletes or those that require perfect accuracy should consider a more expensive alternative that takes measurements from the upper body as well.
Measurements: body weight, muscle, BMI, body fat, water measurements and bone mass
Maximum weight: 396 pounds
Design: the use of edgy shades of black and the unique design create a modern product.

The scale is provided with a nutrition tracking feature so you can establish weight goals, and set your daily calorie intake.
Daily weather report.
Multi-user feature – eight users can use the scale and, afterward, have immediate access to their weight history.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication
Scale accuracy: 3.5/5
The advanced Position ControlITM technology guides the user through the proper weigh in process, eliminating some of the bad data that can result from poor positioning on the scale. After stepping on the scale, the system will automatically guide you until you reach an adequate stance for best results.
The scale comes with the Health Mate app, which is compatible with most Android and IOS devices.
The IFTTT compatibility improves the entire performance of the device, making it functional and convenient for each type of user.
No charging required – the scale comes equipped with a set of standard AAA batteries, which are included in the price.
The margin of error is up to two pounds. For heavier users, some report an even higher variation.
The scale doesn’t function without the app. While the app is very useful, it does limit usage to only those with a compatible smart phone.
Reliability of body fat percentage readings is questionable.
Withings Body Composition Wi-Fi Scale
In a nutshell, Withings Body Composition Wi-Fi Scale is a feature packed product that will help track your health and attain your fitness goals. While all scales of this nature can sometimes provide inaccurate readings, the advanced Position Control technology helps minimize errors related to improper scale use. That said, there is a margin of error, for overweight users in particular. Our own testing showed consistent measurements for weight, but it is important to understand the limitations of these types of scales when it comes to body fat readings. When a bad reading is detected, it is recommended to wait 10 seconds and take a second reading. In most cases, the result will be as expected the second time around. Although the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enable you to monitor progress, the app is a bit more complicated than some others in this space. The UI could use improvement and data can sometimes take a day or two to properly sync. Additionally, many people would prefer being able to keep their personal data local, as opposed to being forced to transfer it to a website. All in all, this is a well rounded scale with a good set of features and decent accuracy. The price point is a bit higher than others in this category, approaching that of professional grade scales.

Smart Weight Body Fat Digital Precision Scale
Upon first glance, the scale is very well designed and looks more expensive than what you pay for it. The setup process is pretty easy, but it needs to be, because the instruction manual is printed in very small font which makes it difficult to follow. Changing from one measurement to another is as simple as pushing a button and there is no need to turn it on or off manually as it offers step-on technology and auto detection for 8 users (over age 10). A couple tips for getting the most accurate readings out of this scale: Step on it with bare, slightly damp feet. Remove all jewelry and anything else metal from your body (not intended for people with pacemakers). Keep the scale on a flat, hard surface and make sure your weight is evenly distributed to the center of the scale. Take measurements at the same time of the day and do not drink large amounts of water or other fluids immediately beforehand. Many users have reported that bone and muscle mass measurements are inaccurate, which is consistent with the results we recieved. Weight and body fat measurements, on the other hand, were mostly consistent over time. As with any scale of this nature, the results aren’t 100% accurate but can give you a good trend of where you’re heading over time. Unfortunately, this scale does not log your measurements via a bluetooth or Wifi connection, so it will be up to you to log this data manually.
Uses sensors in both the hands and feet for more accurate readings.
Easy to use.
4 AA batteries required are included in the price.
No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity and no web application to track fitness progress.
Intended only for adults over 18-years-old.
Calculation algorithm is primarily based on assumptions based on people of the same age and gender.
The scale doesn’t measure body water percentage.
Cannot adjust the settings according to body type.
Omron Body Composition Monitor with Scale
The Omron Body Composition Monitor with 7 Fitness Indicators utilizes the bioelectrical impedance analysis method to evaluate body fat. In other words a small electrical current is transferred through the body and since fat, compared to muscle, is a poor conductor of electricity, the higher the resistance the electrical current experiences, the greater the amount of fat in the body.
The fact that this scale takes readings from both the hands and the feet eliminates some of the inaccuracies that occur with feet only measurements, since some people carry more fat in different parts of the body. This scale is very directionally accurate (it can track small changes in body fat up or down), but there are no options for configuring your specific body type, and it uses assumptions based on your age and gender to do the calculations. This means some users, particularly those with less common body types, may see inaccurate results depending on a number of factors. Unfortunately, you cannot change the settings to accommodate for this. This body composition monitor is really meant for fitness athletes who need a high degree of accuracy when tracking body fat changes.
In our testing, after the initial setup is complete this scale provides very consistent results over time. There are some limitations as always, but it is one of the more accurate body fat scales on the market today. That said, the price is also quite a bit higher than many other scales, especially considering it does not have bluetooth connectivity or a mobile app to help track progress. This makes it a good fit for athletes or fitness competitors, but possibly not for more casual users.
